"I had great parents who had really good priorities. When I said I wanted to go to New York to act with a gazillion dollars in student loans, both of them said, ‘Terrific, do what makes you happy and you’ll find success.’ Now I think about my kids’ educations, and I think, What a thing to say. But they were right. So I hope I do it for my kids, too. And we always did charity work. It gives you a constant sense of where we are in the world. My parents instilled drive and ambition, balanced with being grateful."
